Purpose
The Student Health Center (SHC) is a multidisciplinary, integrated student healthcare service
that provides confidential, student centered care in an accessible, safe, culturally sensitive
and supportive environment. The health center promotes healthy lifestyle choices in support
of students’ physical and emotional well-being to help them achieve academic success.
Services
Medical Services: Our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and
registered nurses provide primary and preventive medical care services and monitor and
respond to public health issues on campus.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS): Counselors provide a safe, non-judgmental
and confidential environment for students to discuss concerns through a personalized
stepped-care approach.
Psychiatric Services: Assessment, diagnostic and treatment recommendations are provided by
staff psychiatrists with short-term treatment and referrals for ongoing psychiatric management.
TimelyCare: All students have access to TimelyCare, free virtual counseling sessions and
medical appointments, both scheduled and on-demand. Be sure to register (even if you’re
not seeking services now) to have 24/7 access to a clinician when you need it.
Student Health Insurance Plan: GW offers a comprehensive plan through Aetna Student
Health.
SUBMIT MANDATORY IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
Familiarize yourself with the SHC’s patient portal, myhealth.gwu.edu. The portal is
GW PRO-TIP
used to upload your immunization records and is also where you receive messages from
your health provider. The District of Columbia requires that all enrolled students under
the age of 26 provide proof of certain immunizations prior to registration. Please see
more details to submit on the Admitted Student Portal Checklist.
