Purpose
The Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (ODECE) supports GW’s strategic
priorities and aspirations for academic and inclusive excellence by providing consultation,
education, resources, assessment, data and programming that inform and shape curricular,
research, administrative and outreach efforts to improve and enhance teaching and learning;
sense of belonging, mentoring and leadership development; dissemination and application of
knowledge; and to build and sustain vital community partnerships in order to promote and foster
the most inclusive community.
Services
• Supports students, faculty, staff and alumni from all identity groups, communities and
perspectives.
• Educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
• Oversees the university’s bias incident support process.
• Creates avenues for students to receive support, feel seen and affirmed, and show up as their
most authentic selves.
• Advocates for all students, faculty and staff to receive equitable experiences.
• Eliminates barriers and obstacles impacting all student success.
• Develops university-wide programming to engage the entire GW community.
FACT
ODECE hosts an annual Diversity Summit each spring for the entire GW community.
Past keynote speakers have included activist Angela Davis and actress MJ Rodriquez!
