Purpose
The Center for Interfaith & Spiritual Life supports and strengthens the university’s religious and philosophical
diversity by providing opportunities to engage with spiritual life on campus through interfaith engagement,
education, service, worship and meditation. The Center helps to confront religious intolerance, promote and
support spiritual development, theological reflections, social justice and social awareness in a warm and
welcoming atmosphere where students, faculty and staff feel comfortable exploring their religious, secular
and spiritual identities.
Services
The Center provides programs, people and spaces to help connect students, faculty and staff at GW. Examples
include the weekly Chaplain’s Corner and Spiritual Bites and Interfaith Insights, Divergent Dialogue Keynote
speakers, Interfaith Week and Interfaith Baccalaureate. The Center also works with student organizations to
support regular programs and ritual support for religious holidays and holy day observances. Students are
supported and encouraged to grow in interfaith leadership development.
• Interfaith Spaces for Prayer, Reflection & Meditation: The Center maintains multiple interfaith prayer and
meditation spaces, including a Dharmic Meditation Space (USC 407), a Musalla Islamic Prayer Space (USC
408), and an Interfaith Reflection Room in the Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) on the 5th floor.
• Kosher, Halal, Vegan & Vegetarian Dining Options: GW Dining offers a variety of food options, making it
easy for students who follow specific dietary guidelines for religious or cultural reasons.
• Religious Accommodations Made Easy: The Center can assist you if you need to adjust your academic
schedule around religious holidays or help with other religious observances.
• A Chaplain for Everyone & Support from the Council of Chaplains: The University Chaplain serves as a
resource for all members of the GW community, providing spiritual guidance and support to individuals
across the religious, secular and spiritual worldview communities on campus. Additionally, the Council of
Chaplains is available for all students seeking support.
• Supporting Student Organizations with Interfaith Programs: GW is home to over a dozen religious, secular
and spiritual student organizations. The Center supports these groups, providing a space to connect and
opportunities to learn more from others.
