Purpose
The Office for Study Abroad (OSA) offers quality and accessible semester and year-long
international education opportunities, supporting undergraduate students through the
entire study abroad process. OSA enhances students’ academic, personal, professional,
and intercultural growth, providing assistance before, during, and after their study abroad
experience
Services
Programs: The Office for Study Abroad maintains a portfolio of over 150 approved programs
for undergraduate semester and year-long study abroad that provide opportunities to students
of all majors at GW. To meet the diverse needs of our students, programs vary in location,
academics, extracurriculars, and overall design and structure to offer exponential culturally
immersive and academically rigorous experiences. Students can also expect to find several
#OnlyAtGW options like our Global Bachelor’s Program and the ACE Triple Degree In Business.
Advising: Working closely with partners in academic advising, school-specific advisors are
available to students to ensure studying abroad fits seamlessly in students’ degree plans.
Advisors support students from their point of initial interest, through the application process,
pre-departure preparations, their time abroad, and returning and transferring credits. Our
office also offers peer advising and express advising to help answer additional questions and
provide guidance from students who have been through the process.
Events: OSA offers several events and programming throughout every semester to help
students better prepare for their experience abroad ranging from financial support, transfer
credit guidance, health and safety preparations, visa support, and more!
FACT
40
Nearly 40% of GW undergraduates will study abroad at some point by
graduation. OSA sends over 900 students abroad each year. Studying abroad
is comparably priced to a semester on campus, with scholarships transferable on
all approved programs, to help the experience be as accessible as possible!
