NEW STUDENT ACTION ITEMS
YOUR JOURNEY TO GW
Placing your deposit is the first step on your journey to GW. As you prepare for your first day of class, these are your
must-do action items to help you have a smooth transition to college.
■ Activate your GW Identity (UserID and GW
email)
You will need your UserID/GW email to search for
a roommate, apply for housing, register for classes
and much more. Your UserID starts with the letter G
followed by an eight-digit number. While you are
enrolled at GW, your GW email will be the university’s
primary method of communicating with you, and we
will no longer send messages to your personal email
address. Check your GW email often (we suggest
daily).
■ Visit your Admitted Student Portal
Within the Admitted Student Portal you will see a
Checklist of tasks to complete before you begin
classes in August. Please review the Checklist
carefully, which will have information about
completing mandatory online modules, registering
for housing, registering with Disability Support
Services (if applicable), submitting mandatory
Immunization Records, reviewing your eBill (tuition
invoice) and more.
Note: You will need your UserID and GW email
to complete the following action items.
■ Register for New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation is a required, in-person
program for all new incoming students joining us
for the 2025-2026 academic year. Orientation for
first-year students will take place in June, and also
in August for our Transfer students and International
Students studying on a J-1 or F-1 visa. If you have
an extenuating circumstance or a financial hardship
that would keep you from attending a June session,
please reach out to us for additional information at
orientation@gwu.edu as soon as possible.
Registration for New Student Orientation opens in
April 2025 and closes five business days before each
session begins. Check the GW Orientation website
for more information and the registration link.
